Toronto
theatre director William Lane has joined CBC Radio Drama
as a producer bringing with him some formidable credits: Lane directed
the Canadian premières of Erika Ritter's Automatic Pilot
and The Passing Scene, Sam Shepard's Buried Child, Stephen Poliakoff's
Strawberry Fields and George F. Walker's Zastrozzi, among others.
His first radio play, The Old Post Road, will be broadcast on Nightfall
March 26, and Lane himself will direct three for this series: Mr.
Agostino by Janet Bonellie, The Road Runs to the Sea by Tim
Wynne-Jones and Turn of the Blood by Paul Bettis, scheduled
April 30, May 7 and 14 respectively. |

Speaking
of Nightfall, another 13 episodes have been sold to National Public
Radio in the States, for a total of 39. Maritime actress Florence
Paterson makes a guest appearance on Nightfall, April 23, in
The Screaming Skull, a chilling tale by master horror writer F.
Marion Crawford, adapted by Guy Babineau and John Douglas. |

Doug
Lennox, former co-host with Sylvia Tyson of Touch the Earth,
has written his first radio play, The Bearwalk, based on a true
story about the clash between Red Power Indians and prospectors
over development in the Yukon. Ron Cook, who won a Theatre
Ontario Festival award for The Ecstasy of Rita Joe, plays an elder
of the tribe. Cook is a member of the Association for Native Development
in the Performing and Visual Arts. Also in the cast, directed by
Paul Mills, is August Schellenberg, and Larry Reynolds
who played the title role in Allan Stratton's Rexy. The Bearwalk
is slated for Sunday Matinee, date TBA. |
