Research Notes

Archie Hunter's CBC Radio Guide research gives this episode's airdate -- November 28th, 1980 -- as the originally-scheduled broadcast date for "The Devil's Backbone" (#19).  (Neil Marsh)

+Archie Hunter's CBC Radio Guide research shows this episode as having a National AM repeat on June 12, 1981, but this is not substantiated by any other source. Randy Minnehan's original CBC broadcast log gives that date as the National AM repeat of "The Willoughby Obsession" (#10).  (Neil Marsh)

The original CBC broadcast of this episode, as well as the CBC Enterprises audio cassette release, has an opening scene in Paul Gemmel's pawn shop, in which André purchases the Von Hensdorf. Bill Howell (?) prepared an edited version for NPR Playhouse in which this scene was removed. Correspondence between NPR and the CBC indicates that programs needed to be limited to 29:00 minutes in length, so it is likely that this is the reason for the cut.  (Neil Marsh)

*The LENGTH is taken from the version broadcast on XM-163: Sonic Theatre. The NPR Playhouse version is 28:47 and the CBC Enterprises audio cassette release is 28:11.  (Neil Marsh)
